The site is beneath I-95 in downtown Wilmington. SkateNerd partnered with ABArch and VDZ to design a skateboard space that would serve the street skateboarding community. Access to the developing waterfront happens at key points along the city grid and this project is located at one of those points.
Our challenge was to design a space which could allow pedestrians direct linkage across, as well serve as a skatepark and work with the highway structure. Our design employed two circular plazas bisected by a pathway linking North to South.
I directed public meetings, community feedback as well as assisted in the design. My sketch is included and features most of the final concept selected.
